When I joined The Huffington Post, its Books section had little presence either among readers or in the publishing industry.
Over two years, I made HuffPost Books a leading source of publishing news and discussion, with more than 2.5 million unique visitors per month enjoying our irreverent take on books and reading.
I broke stories - including about prison censorship, and indie booksellers suing Amazon - which were picked up by The New York Times, The Guardian and others. I created relationships with major publishers, and negotiated exclusives from Stephen King, Margaret Atwood, Elmore Leonard and Junot Díaz. When JK Rowling's new book was announced, I was one of a handful of people to receive an advance copy.
I also participated in major industry events including BookExpo America and the Frankfurt Book Fair, and co-created a Book Club like no other.
Some numbers from my two years in charge of the section:
• Twitter followers: from 19,000 to 98,000
• Facebook 'likes': from 800 to 31,000
• Instagram followers: from zero to 7,000
• Page Views: organic increase > 50%
• Number of bookmarked visits: increase > 100%
