So far, half empty

glassmag

Purely for its industrial noun title, new magazine glass might be thought of as a British version of Tar – and the similarities don’t end there. Some of the contents of its issue zero are more fashion-related than Tar, but in other places, it does seem to contain similarly troubling claims to worthiness.

According to its website, glass “aims to bring integrity and guardianship to creative culture”, which in their issue zero means putting an article about the plight of the Cambodian people and an interview with the Dandy Warhols alongside fashion shoots and some photojournalism about the last days of the Bush era.

However, this is, after all, an issue zero, so its political posturing about poor people alongside high fashion could yet be resolved by issue one. Its website is already showing some potential for showcasing unusual talents, so I’ll withhold full judgement until the first proper issue appears on shelves in Spring next year.

I will say this, however: though I don’t like so much the general cover template (and it’ll have a hellish time being spotted on newsstands where only the top third is visible), I do quite like their choice of image.
