Tactile Mind is a new publication that’s received some coverage as offering “nude photographs for the blind”.
A lovely idea, you may think, except that it’s based on a fallacy, as pointed out in this interview with Geoffrey Long, who has been blind since birth.
In short, he says that “the triggers for arousal for blind people are so different from those of sighted people… For a person blind since birth, a picture is a meaningless concept.”
At the risk of sounding all Seth Godin, there’s a clear publishing lesson here: if you aren’t your target audience, you should always closely work with someone who is. You’d be amazed how different their worlds can be.
Did I mention that I’m also available for consulting and conferences?
