Named and shamed

This reminds me of when I was teaching in Hong Kong, where the kids had to choose their English names at the age of ten. The names then stuck for the rest of their lives, in any place that required bilingual name badges. It led to predictable results.

I taught Bread, Apple, Pizza, both Michael and Jordan (they sat next to each other), Computer, Nicam, Simpsons, Zero and Rasputin. I remember Daydream and Ghost serving me in a restaurant and Carbon selling me my laptop. There was one kid in school who was rarely called by his full name though. Showing an aptitude for chemistry unusual in one so young, he was proud to be known as Hydrogen Chloride Litmus Paper.

Due to unnecessary cruelty on our part, we always used to make Fanny and Manhood work together in class. Sometimes we'd put Johnny in between them. I like to think they still don't know why.
