At first glance, a sentence of 17,000 years might seem a little absurd, but I like to think that this is no random number. For those two daughters of Eve, Velda and Tara, from which most Spaniards, and therefore Argentineans, are descended (if you like that particular theory) are said to have lived 17,000 years ago. So the sentence is a symbolic declaration of ultimate inhumanity, a statement that these crimes are so terrible that the perpetrator has no place in our level of evolution, for we have neither the understanding nor the capability to cope with such matters in our current form. He must wait until our species has developed once again, and try to make a new life among whatever remains when he emerges. At least, that's what I like to think.
